Verify your domain

You send from your own domain, such as [email protected]. Before Vaartix sends for it, you prove you own it by publishing a few DNS records. They also make your email trusted by Gmail, Outlook and others.

  1. Add the domain

    Terminal window
    curl -X POST https://api.vaartix.com/domains \
    -H "Authorization: Bearer $VAARTIX_API_KEY" \
    -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
    -d '{ "name": "acme.in" }'

The response lists the records to publish. You can also add a subdomain such as mail.acme.in to keep your sending reputation separate from your main domain.

  2. Publish the records at your DNS provider (Cloudflare, GoDaddy, Hostinger, Route 53 and so on).

  3. Wait for verification. Vaartix checks every 10 minutes for 72 hours. To check right away, call POST /domains/{id}/verify. Most domains verify within an hour.

For acme.in you’ll see six records like these (the DKIM values are unique to your domain):

Type Name Value Purpose
CNAME abc123._domainkey.acme.in abc123.dkim.amazonses.com DKIM signing key 1
CNAME def456._domainkey.acme.in def456.dkim.amazonses.com DKIM signing key 2
CNAME ghi789._domainkey.acme.in ghi789.dkim.amazonses.com DKIM signing key 3
MX (priority 10) send.acme.in feedback-smtp.ap-south-1.amazonses.com Return path for bounces
TXT send.acme.in v=spf1 include:amazonses.com ~all SPF for the return path
TXT _dmarc.acme.in v=DMARC1; p=none; DMARC (recommended)
  • DKIM signs every email so receivers know it really came from you.
  • The send. records give bounces a home on your domain, which makes SPF line up with your domain.
  • DMARC tells receivers what to do with mail that fails those checks. p=none only monitors; move to p=quarantine once everything passes. If you already have a DMARC record, keep yours.

The send. subdomain doesn’t affect your normal inbox: your main domain’s MX records stay as they are.

  • Name field: many providers add your domain automatically. If you type abc123._domainkey.acme.in they store abc123._domainkey.acme.in.acme.in. Enter only the part before your domain (abc123._domainkey, send, _dmarc) when the form shows your domain next to it.
  • Trailing dots: some providers want abc123.dkim.amazonses.com. with a dot at the end; both work.
  • One SPF record per name: the send. SPF record is new and separate from any SPF record on your main domain, so it won’t conflict.
Status Meaning
pending Records not found yet. DNS changes can take a while to spread.
verified Ready to send.
temporary_failure The DNS lookup failed; Vaartix keeps trying.
failed The records weren’t found within 72 hours. Fix them, delete the domain and add it again.

Each record in the response has its own status, so you can see which one is missing.

  • A domain belongs to one team. Adding a domain another team has already registered returns 409 conflict.
  • Public mailbox domains (gmail.com, outlook.com and so on) can’t be added.
  • The Free plan includes one domain.
